| In math we have been working on the skill of counting on. For this project the children rolled a number cube (dice) and wrote that number in the box. Then they need to write what the next three numbers would be. |

| In this counting on game, we danced around numbers on the floor. When the music stopped we needed to stand over a number. When I said "switch", they needed to find the number that comes next. |
 |
| What great problem solvers I have. Only the numbers 1-10 were on the floor. The first person who landed on 10 needed to decide what to do. We had many great suggestions of ways to get around this problem. In the end we thought the fastest way would be to get the number 11 out of the stack of cards. :) |

What is counting on?
Children can count on from one number when finding the total of two collections, which they may have already counted.
The next step is to realize that it is better to count on from the larger of the two numbers. Previously, children will find the total of two collections by recording all the objectives.
Children will move from needing to count all to counting on to counting on from the larger number.
