Some Very Good Web Sites

The children have asked me to post some of our favorite sites.  Here are some that we enjoy.

Tumble books
http://library.pe.ca/

You can click on "Tumble Books" to the right side of the screen.  We have been working on fiction and non fiction text.  Tumble books has some great examples of both.  Ask your child the difference between the two.

Tux Paint

 http://tuxpaint.org/download/

This is a program we started off with in the computer lab at the first of the year.  It is a lot of fun.

This is a cool video to help explain vowel teams.  It is from http://www.starfall.com/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o84ndBQU6vQ

Frog Jump Letters

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_k9FsYfsqx8

Jolly Songs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djz82FBYiug

These are not the same songs that we have been doing in class but the actions are.

How to print upper case letters

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt9caJcLEWs

We use this in class with the mini white boards to practice printing our letters.

Common Sense Media

http://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews

OK so this one is not one that the students recommended but I really like it.  If you would like to know about movies that are coming out, it is a really great site to let you know what the content of the movie is and then you are able to decided if that is something you want your child to view.  It also has video game and book reviews and ratings.  Please check it out!

Dear family,
Happy New Year to all!  We have had a really great first week of 2012. I would like to thank you for all the beautiful, yummy and thoughtful Christmas gifts I received. ~ Thank you~
The children have picked right up where we left off in December.  With that said we have a few projects that they wanted to do before the break that we ran out of time for.  Here are a few notes on what we will be working on:
Recipe Book – The children have expressed an interest in making a family favorites recipe book.  For this project we are asking each family to write down one of their families favorite recipes, and send it into class.  We will put the book together and send home a copy to each family.
Collecting data – We will be a mini unit on collecting data.  In this unit we will be doing many forms of how to collect and organize information.  We will be doing surveys and making different kinds of graphs throughout the unit.  This is in addition to our “Math Makes Sense” program, but will strongly support the concepts we are working on.
Christmas Show and tell – The children have been doing lots of story telling and writing about their Christmas break.  They have requested a Christmas Show and Tell.  Everyone is invited to bring in ONE toy that they received for Christmas to show and share.  Please do not send anything in that is especially breakable or has a violent theme.
Journal Take Home Day – There has been some requests from the class to take home their journals that they use here in class.  I think this is a great opportunity for them to look back on their earlier work and see their growth.  Next week you child will be taking home their journal to share.  Please fill out the feed back sheet and return it ASAP as this is where a lot of our writing happens.  If you need some extra time, just send along a note.
Guided Reading - All students have started the guided reading program.  I will post some pictures on the blog soon. (I hopeJ)  Books from the guided reading will start coming home to share in the next few weeks.  It may seem that they are a step back from what they have been taking home; however, they are now responsible for the reading more independently.
As always, if you have ANY questions at anytime please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Mrs. Bernard
